ABSTRACT
Laboratory experiments were carried out to study the physicochemical characteristics and shelf life of red ripe tomato fruits dipped in the solution of Gibberellic acid, Potassium nitrate and Silicic acid with control during storage. All tested treatments indicated a significant delay in the change of moisture, total soluble solids, total soluble sugars, physiological weight loss, decaying percentage and activity of cell wall degrading enzymes of experimental set than that of the control set. Moreover, the physicochemical analysis of tomato fruits of experimental set revealed that it also contain higher amount of ascorbic acid, titratable acidity, lycopene and ?- carotene content than that of control set. The significant impact of treatments GA3 0.1% and silicic acid 0.1 % was found on the least decay percentage, physiological loss of weight and cell wall degrading enzymes to prolong the shelf life of fruits.
