ABSTRACT
To study the effect of age of transplants on growth and seed yield of brinjal an experiment was conducted at Vegetable Research Station, SKLTSHU, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Telangana. The experiment was laid out in a completely Randomized block design, with 9-treatments with different days of transplants of brinjal var. Shyamala. The data was collected for the 13 parameters of growth, fruit and seed yield of brinjal. The results of experiment revealed that the maximum performance was recorded for the T4 (24 days of age of transplants) with yield per ha (74.58 t/ha) which was followed by the treatment T5 (27 days of age of transplants) with the yield per ha (57.05 t/ha) and least performance was recorded by treatment T8 (36 days of age of transplants) with the yield per ha (11.28 t/ha). Similarly, the treatment T4 (24 days of age of transplants) recorded the maximum for seed yield/ha (254.43 kg/ha), followed by T5 (27 days of age of transplants) (245.72 kg/ha) and minimum was obtained under T8 (36 days of age of transplants) (181.65 kg/ha). It is observed that the treatment T4 (24 days of age of transplants) is suitable age for transplanting, resulting in better fruit and seed yield parameters, which is due to good root and plant canopy development.
