ABSTRACT
A medicinal herb can be compared with a chemical factory due to presence of number of chemical constituents like alkaloids, glycosides, saponins, resins, oleoresins, sesquiterpene lactones and oils (essential and fixed). Standardization helps in adjusting the herbal drug formulation to a defined content of a constituent or constituents with therapeutic activity. In the present study we evaluated and characterized the Curcuma cultivars for morpho-agronomic attributes. Sprouted rhizomes of twenty-two different Curcuma genotypes were sown in RCB Design in the field. Recommended package of practices were followed. Cluster analysis was performed by using software SPAR-1, IASRI, New Delhi. A wide range of diversity has been recorded among all the collected genotypes. Inter and intra cluster distance showed genetic divergence among the genotypes.
