ABSTRACT
Gluconacetobacter sp. were isolated from rotting sugary fruits. Four hundred and thirty two samples consisting of rotting sugary fruits were tested for isolation among them 32 apple fruits showed good results for isolation of Gluconacetobacter sp. The Gluconacetobacter sp. grown in Tender coconut milk broth (TCMB), containing 9% refined sugar, 0.5% ammonium dihydrogen orthophosphate and 2% glacial acetic acid was added. The isolates showed positive growth at 30° C and also at pH 4.5 and showed negative growth at 35oC and at pH 5.5. The isolates were found to be short rods, occur either singly or in pairs, and showed negative gram reaction. The isolates showed positive for acid production and negative for gas production, indole production, nitrate reduction, gelatin hydrolysis. The isolates obtained showed positive for catalase test. All these morphological and biochemical examination indicated that the isolates belongs to the genus Gluconacetobacter.
