ABSTRACT
A replant problem in apple orchard appears to be related to rhizosphere microflora. Overcoming replant problem is critical for the successful establishment of high-density orchards. Pseudomonas species especially some members of fluorescent group are the most diverse and versatile group of indigenous microflora with plant growth promoting and biocontrol properties. So, this study was carried out to isolate best indigenous plant Pseudomonas sp., which may be used as an efficient solution to the replant problem. In this paper, we have discussed the total bacterial and Pseudomonas populations present in the rhizosphere of apple and pear plants growing in normal orchards and replant problem sites. The most predominant 30 Pseudomonas isolates were identified on the basis of morphological, biochemical and physiological tests as prescribed in Bergey's manual of systematic bacteriology. The total and fluorescent Pseudomonas count in the samples collected from normal sites of apple and pear rhizosphere was more as compared to counts in replant sites of plants. From all these test it is concluded that out of 30 isolates 12 isolates belong to P. aeruginosa group, 4 isolates belong to P. putida group and 12 isolates belong to P. fluorescence group.
