ABSTRACT
A study was conducted to assess farmers' personal characters, knowledge, level of adoption and non-adoption of sericulture technologies under rainfed condition of Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka. Data recorded on farmers' personal and socio-economic condition revealed that most of the farmers are middle age group and are uneducated. Large group of farmers rear cross breed silkworm race and average cocoon yield was 56.2 kg/100 dfls. With regard to knowledge, adoption and non-adoption of technologies, majority of the farmers are having adequate knowledge in mulberry cultivation and silkworm rearing technologies but adoption of technologies were comparatively less. Farmers' constraints for partial/ non-adoption of technologies were mainly due to high cost of technologies, lack of awareness, finance, technical guidance, training and separate rearing house. Farmers' main source of consultation about sericulture was field staffs. An overview of the study indicated that the farmers' knowledge and adoption of technology can be improved, if the field staffs frequently visit the farmers' field and convey the benefits of the technology and also if the farmers take personal interest to meet the field officials and to attend the training programmes conducted at research institutes.
