ABSTRACT
The research study was conducted in Dharwad district of Karnataka state during 2008-2009. Two taluks namely Kundgol and Khalaghatgi were selected for conducting the present investigation. Khalaghatgi was selected purposively as villages adopted by the University of Agricultural Sciences for practicing organic farming fall in this taluka. Kundgol was selected where farm women practice regular agriculture. Knowledge level and adoption of vermicomposting by farm women was studied. The findings revealed that the level of knowledge regarding vermicomposting in the organic villages was quite high this could be because of the intensive efforts made by the university scientists to educate the village folk in organic villages. While the same was quite low in the non- organic villages. This would call for educating farm women on ill effects of inorganic agriculture from the human health point of view either through mass media or by way of training.
