ABSTRACT
The main component of organic farming is organic manures. Among the manures, organic liquid manures are promising, and they are 20% more effective than others. Only a small amount is sufficient for effective plant growth. Kunapajala is such an organic liquid manure mentioned in Vrikshayurvedha. It is a fermentation product and acts as a good source of plant nutrients. Two types of Kunapajala, viz; herbal and non-herbal getting pace. The major objective of the present study was to prepare, characterize and to study the soil and foliar application efficacy of herbal and non-herbal Kunapajala. Kunapajala was prepared as per the procedures prescribed in Vrikshayurvedha. Primary, secondary and micro nutrient contents of Kunapajala were analysed. Both of them contains significant amount of nutrients. N, P, K contents in herbal preparation are 1.09%, 0.10%, 0.33% and that of non-herbal preparation are 1.28%, 0.11%, and 0.44% respectively. Similarly, non – herbal recorded higher values than herbal with respect to nutrient contents. 2% & 5% concentration of herbal and non-herbal Kunapajala were used for field study. Field study emphasized that among the different treatment combinations, application of 50% N as FYM + 5% non-herbal Kunapajala as foliar application was found to be beneficial in growth and yield parameters of bhindi. Characterization and field study indicated that Kunapajala was a promising liquid organic manure for plant growth and yield.
