ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to investigate nitrogen, chlorophyll concentration, plant growth, flower yield and quality of 9 different varieties of Hyacinthus orientalis in polyhouse at the Department of Horticulture, Prayagraj. Eleven parameters including no. of days taken for 50 and 100% sprouting, no. of leaves per plant, length of leaves, plant height, leaf width, chlorophyll concentration, nitrogen concentration, no. of flowers per plant, no. of flowers per plot and shelf-life of flower were measured. Results indicated that among 9 varieties of hyacinth cultivated variety Fondant was found to best in terms of plant height (30.83cm), length of leaves (33.73cm), width of leaves (4.67cm), chlorophyll concentration (77.77 Spad value), nitrogen concentration in leaves (37.32%) and No. of flowers per plant (51.55). Vase-life of flower was highest at 13.77 days. Fondant variety observed to be best in the terms of flower quality, no. of flower per plant 51.55 and shelf-life of flower 11.22 days after full opening of flower. Cost : benefit ratio was best appear in var. Fondant 3.77 respectively is outcome in the result.
