ABSTRACT
The physical parameters of marking-nut are expressed in the form of regression equations, as a function of moisture content. Once the moisture content is known, the physical parameters can be calculated from these equations. As moisture content depends on weather conditions, these equations can be used for other environmental conditions than those of India. It was found that the dominant physical properties that influenced nut cracking were nut size, shape, nut variety, moisture content etc. Some physical properties were determined as a function of moisture content in the range of 1.9619.59% d.b. for small, medium and large size fractions of marking-nuts. Axial dimensions, grain size, surface area, true density, porosity, thousand nut weight and angle of repose were found linearly increased with increase in moisture contents. The bulk density was found linearly decreased with increase in moisture content. Sphericity of marking-nut was found to be constant with increase in moisture content. The values of static coefficient of friction varied from 0.538 to 0.670 against various surfaces. The coefficient of determination (R2) value for all variables are high (>0.93) indicating high proportion of variability.
