ABSTRACT
A study on some engineering properties of Ragi (Eleusine coracana) grains were determined within moisture content range of 7 – 16 per cent (wb) which were essentially required for design and development of a ragi thresher. The size, mass of 1000 grains, true density, bulk density and porosity, of OUAT released ragi variety “Chilika, Bhairabi and Suvra” were found to vary from 1.41 – 1.68 mm, 3.42 – 3.65 g., 618 – 702 kgm-3, 1160 – 1450 kgm-3 and 45.50 – 51.77 per cent respectively. The frictional properties of the finger millet grains viz., angle of repose, coefficient of static friction on MS sheet were determined, which vary from 21.60 – 26.90 degree and 0.42 – 0.60 respectively. The terminal velocity of the grains was found varying from 2.51 – 2.79 ms-1.
