ABSTRACT
To determine the genetic diversity and to establish the genetic relationships of peach (Prunus persica) germplasm available in Himachal Pradesh, a representative collection of 45 accessions was analyzed using RAPD molecular markers. These primers revealed 62.57% polymorphism. PIC values varied from 0.13 to 0.50 with the mean values for all loci were 0.35. Jaccard's similarity coefficient among peach accessions ranged from 0.37 to 0.95 which indicated a broad genetic base. Dendrogram grouped the subjected genotypes into two major clusters. The genotype 'IC2' was found to be highly diversified among all the subjected genotypes. Overall, the present study revealed the existence of considerable variations among the genotypes. A better knowledge of germplasm diversity is critical for developing new varieties and useful for conducting basic research into the biology of a crop plant. In conclusion, genotypes used in this study could be tapped in breeding programmes aimed at crop improvement.
