ABSTRACT
Use of pesticides to control insect pests has resulted in global contamination. Applied pesticide percolates into the soil and contaminates ground water and other water resources. Fifty one water samples collected from different locations from Nanjunagud and Mysore area representing surface, canal water, open and deep well water were analysed for residues of organochlorine and organophosphate insecticides using multi-residue methods analysed by GC-ECD and FPD respectively. Most of the water samples analyzed are free from contamination of these insecticides. In most cases residue levels were found to be within WHO Guideline values for drinking water quality. Gamma-HCH was detected in three samples and one sample was detected with alpha-HCH. Ground water samples were not contained any residues.Organophosphorus insecticides were not detected in any water samples analysed.
