ABSTRACT
Characterization based on visually assessed qualitative traits provides pivotal information on racial differentiation and varietal identification. Morphological characterization of genotypes has predominant role in understanding phylogenetic relationship as well as in the context of plant breeders right (PBR's) for DUS testing guidelines, maintenance, multiplication and seed certification of a variety. Hence, the present investigation was carried out during kharif, 2020 at Agricultural College Farm, Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh to characterize 64 genotypes of finger millet including three checks using 10 visually observed morphological descriptors. Morphological characterization revealed the existence of sufficient variability for the characters studied. Majority of genotypes exhibited erect growth habit, absence of plant pigmentation, presence of culm branching, semicompact ear head shape, absence of finger branching, absence of multiple whorl, absence of spikelet discontinuity, dark green glume colour and light brown colour seeds..
