ABSTRACT
Fruits form an essential part of a balance diet and they are important sources of digestible carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins particularly vitamin C and roughage. Myrica esculenta (locally known as kaphal) is a medium sized plant of 12.15 m in height. Its plant is dioecious and bears on one-year-old shoots where female flowers were found on erect axillary spikes and male flowers were found on catkin. Unisexual flowers are very small in size. Fruit is drupe, 1.2 x 0.9 cm in size, 0.76 g in weight matures on May-June. The chemical analysis of ripe fruits revealed that fruits of M. esculenta contains moisture (64.67%), juice (51.73%), TSS (13.9%), total sugars (7.26%), malic acid (1.52%), vitamin C (9.05 mg/100 g of fruit pulp).
