ABSTRACT
The present investigation on nutritional status of large ruminant (Cross-bred cattle) in Dharni Tahsil of Amravati District was undertaken in Dharni tahsil. It was observed that, a farmer educated upto middle school level has taken interest in keeping the crossbred cows. Small and medium size families were having more interest in crossbred rearing as compared to large size families, findings revealed that dairy farmers having land upto 6 ha. owned maximum number of crossbred cows, while the landless farmers showed least ownership of crossbred cattle. Majority of farmers reared only one cattle (71.1%) followed by two cows (25.93%) and only 2.9% farmers had four cattle each. About 62.96% farmers were feeding roughages @ 11-15 kg to milch cow per day. Whereas, 22.22% dry cows were fed @ 05-10 kg roughages per day. Trend of increased roughage feeding was seen with increase in land holding in farmers. Majority of farmers fed agricultural crop residues like jowar kadbi, paddy straw, soybean straw etc. and 82.97% farmers leaved their cattle for grazing and only 17.03% farmers fed their animals by stall feeding. About 85.92 % of cattle owners fed concentrate to their cattle without processing and merely 14.08% farmers practiced processing of concentrates The surplus dry matter and total digestible nutrients were observed form all category farmers and its percent deviation was more in large category farmers. While supply of digestible crude protein was found deficit in all category of farmers.
