ABSTRACT
Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) is the leading fibre crop of the world. Majority of the cotton grown in India comes from rainfed condition. As a result there will be water deficiency stress at one or the other growth stages. A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Dharwad, Karnataka during 2011-12 to study the occurrence of drought severities during different crop growth stages and its impact on growth, development and yield in Bt cotton hybrids. The experiment consists of four moisture levels viz., irrigated, two irrigations, one irrigation and rainfed as main plots, two genotypes viz., RCH-2 Bt BGII and MRC-6322 Bt BG-II as subplots in a split plot design with three replications on medium black soil in field condition. The results revealed that the genotype RCH-2 Bt BG-II recorded maximum plant height, TDM, LAI, rate of photosynthesis, transpiration, less water potential, more CSI, higher number of bolls as compared to MRC-6322 Bt BG-II under irrigated regime as compared to rainfed condition. Among the treatments, RCH-2 Bt in fully irrigated condition recorded significantly more seed cotton yield compared to MRC-6322 Bt in rainfed condition.
