ABSTRACT
The NBAGR Government of India has accepted Nagpuri as the only breed to buffalo. The present study is planned to ascertain whether the Nagpuri buffalo population is homogenous or comprising number of heterogenous groups on the basis of prominent physical characteristics. The outcome of the survey may help to establish the identity of Gaolao buffalo as one of the strains of Nagpuri buffalo breed. From the results it was established that the body measurements were developed proportionately to each other in Gaolao strain of Nagpuri buffalo breed. The regression coefficients attached to head length, horn length, body length and tail length were significant at 1% probability level. While, the other measurements did not reach the level of significance. The path coefficient analysis established that skeletal development in terms of BW in Gaolao strain of Nagpuri buffalo breed was influenced dominantly by horn length, body length, chest girth and tail length measurements.
