ABSTRACT
Tractor mounted rotavator is suitable for seedbed preparation and mixing crop residues in the soil which performs the seedbed preparatory operations in one pass in the sugarcane field. The study was undertaken to evaluate the performance of rotavator under different field conditions. In order to evaluate the performance of the rotavator under the different sugarcane field condition three tests were conducted by using Mahindra And Mahindra Ltd. rotavator powered by 50 hp tractors in the sugarcane field as per the RNAM test codes. Field test data analysis indicated that performance of rotavator was better in fields at optimum field moisture content.
The average field efficiency was about 84% with effective field capacity of 0.5142 ha/h. at an average speed of 4.08 kmph. The average effective working width and depth was observed to be about 150 cm and 13.33 cm respectively. The mean soil clod diameter was about 12.27mm. The wheel slip was found to be between – 1.2 and – 2 %. Average fuel consumption rate noted was 5.85 lit/h and 11.38 lit/ha. The operating cost was worked out to be ` 526.61/ ha. The study revealed that the overall performance of M&M model Rotavator with 1.5 m width for sugarcane stubble management was satisfactory. No noticeable breakdowns were observed during the tests.
