ABSTRACT
Mango is one of the most important fruit crops of India grown throughout the country except in temperate zone. One of the major constraints for low productivity in mango is high incidence of pests and diseases. Three sprayers namely rocking sprayers, power sprayer and tall tree air carrier sprayer were evaluated to know the effectiveness spraying. In rocker sprayer, time and spray solution required per tree was low. The cost of operation of spraying with adjustable nozzle was Rs. 134/ha and with trigger spray gun was Rs. 175/ha. In case of power sprayer as the discharge rate of spraying gun increases, the spray solution required per tree increases. The cost of operation of spraying with power sprayer was ` 277/ha. In air carrier sprayer, flow rate of spray nozzle was measured by operating sprayer at a speed of 7,8.5 and 10 km/hr with four different dosage discs i.e. 1/16, 3.32, 1/8, and 5/32 inch. The flow rate of air carrier sprayer varies from 0.6 lit/m in to 2.42 lit/min. with different dosage disc. The spray swath and horizontal throw of air carrier sprayer increases with increase of speed. The air velocity increase in distance from blower outlet from 3 m to 15 m. The VMD, NMD and UC values vary from 279.87 um, 2.456 to 258.44 um, 93.55 um, 3.52 for 0.92 to 2 lit/min. discharge rate respectively. The high cost of operation of air carrier sprayer was compensated by low requirement of spray solution, time requirement, uniform application on tree canopy and minimum dripping loss.
