ABSTRACT
Field experiment was conducted during 2014–2015 at the College of Horticulture, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola, Maharashtra (India) to evaluate the performance of fenugreek varieties under Akola conditions. Seven cultivars viz., Pant Ragini, Hisar Suvarna, Hisar Mukta, Hisar Sonali, Hisar Madhavi, Rajendra Kranti and Pusa Early Bunching were evaluated for their growth and leaf yield. The experiment was laid out in Randomized block design with four replications. The varieties under study exhibited significant variation in their performance in term of growth and leaf yield characters. Amongst different varieties, Hisar Suvarna took minimum period for germination. Hisar Sonali had the significantly maximum plant height, maximum numbers of branches, maximum fresh weight and maximum green leaf yield. Whereas, the maximum leaf area found in Pant Ragini, it was found at par with Hisar Madhavi and Hisar Suvarna. Similarly in leaf quality attributes, leaves of Hisar Sonali had maximum leaf chlorophyll content while iron content was found maximum in Rajendra Kranti whereas, maximum moisture content was recorded in Pant Ragini. Among the cultivars, Hisar Sonali performed best and found suitable for growing under Akola, Maharashtra conditions for growth, green leaf yield and quality.
