ABSTRACT
The present investigation was carried out at National Horticultural Research and Development Foundation Nashik (200 N latitude and 730 E longitudes and altitude of 492.0 meter mean sea levels), Maharashtra during rabi, 2007-2009. The study comprises nine diverse red onion and ten white onion advance lines, selected among four hundred germplasms evaluated at this centre and laid out in randomized block design with three replications. The pooled results for both years of red onion revealed that the highest and significant gross yield (378.46 q/ha) and marketable yield (353.37 q/ha) was noted for Agrifound Light Red and which was at par with advance Line-382 (357.67 q/ha) regarding gross yield. The traits bulb diameter, bulb size index and weight of 20 bulbs ranges from 5.28 cm–5.66 cm, 19.62 cm2–22.01 cm2 and 1.25 kg–1.45 kg respectively. The data of white onion revealed that the highest gross yield (322.71 q/ha) and marketable yield (298.23 q/ha) was observed for advance line-590. The bulb diameter and size index ranges from (5.19 cm–5.82 cm) and (18.37 cm2–22.91 cm2). The weight of 20 bulbs highest and significant (1.42 kg) showed by line-590 and which was at par with L-627(1.27 kg). It is noted from the experiment conducted L-590 can be utilized for higher yield and Agrifound White can be used for processing purpose. Most of the traits exhibited non-significant because of no stability in lines and climatic conditions vary from year to year.
