ABSTRACT
An experiment was carried out at Instructional farm of Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Pundibari, West Bengal during the year 2012 -2014. The treatment perforated polyethylene bag (PPB) at early stage of bunch emergence provided good quality fruits with no scars and recorded highest fingers per bunch (161.46 & 152.44), fingers per hand (16.88 &16.86), hands per bunch (10.00 & 10.28), fruit length (21.1 cm & 19.8 cm), fruit diameter (4.0cm & 3.9 cm), fruit weight (157.6 g & 149.8 g), fruit volume (152.3 cm3 &149.0 cm3), hand weight (3.98 kg &3.34 kg) , pulp (113.5 g &112.3 g) and peel (42.6 g &37.4) and pulp to peel ratio (2.7 & 3.2), physiological loss in weight (10.27 % & 10.19 %) and bunch length (83.82 cm & 83.03 cm), bunch diameter (35.65 cm & 32.69 cm) and bunch weight (27.55 kg & 26.75 cm) whereas in control recorded lowest fingers per bunch (132.09 & 133.26), fingers per hand (14.18 &14.08), hands per bunch (9.00 & 9.29), fruit length (16.6 cm & 16.9 cm), fruit diameter (3.5 cm & 3.5 cm), fruit weight (118.1 g & 119.5 g), fruit volume (123.7 cm3 &119.1 cm3), hand weight (2.43 kg &2.29 kg), pulp (93.7 g &93.3 g) and peel (36.4 g & 34.7 g) and pulp to peel ratio (2.6 & 2.7), physiological loss in weight (16.70 % & 16.27 %) and bunch length (81.12 cm & 76.76 cm), bunch diameter (31.43 cm & 31.68 cm) and bunch weight (17.28 kg & 16.68 kg) of plant and ratoon crops, respectively in banana var. Grand Naine.
