ABSTRACT
The physical properties and chemical composition varies as per varieties of flaxseed. In present studies three different varieties from Maharastra region namely NL-260, RLC-4 and SLS-93 were studied for physical properties and chemical composition. The geometric properties such as length, width, thickness, geometric mean diameter and sphericity varied from 4.46 to 4.7 mm , 2.23 to 2.53 mm , 0.52 to 0.53 mm , 1.64 to 1.81 mm and 33.80 to 37.85 % respectively. The gravimetric properties like 1000 seed mass, bulk density, true density and porosity varied from 5.8 to 8.48 gm , 0.73 to 0.75 gm/ml , 1.13 to 1.25 gm/ml and 35.39 to 42.55%. The frictional properties and mechanical properties varied significantly. The chemical properties like moisture, fat, protein, total carbohydrate, crude fiber and ash content varied from 4.3-4.8%, 39.12-44.32%, 21.81-23.40%, 5.32-6.14%, 4.16-4.62% respectively.
The comparative study of physical properties and chemical composition of three varieties namely RLC-4 ,Nl-260 and SLS-93 show significant variation in their values.
