ABSTRACT
The physical properties of the sugarcane varieties Co86032, CoM0265 (from Indapur and Dehu, Dist. Pune, Maharashtra) and CoS767 (from Kota, Rajasthan) were determined. Thirty samples of the freshly harvested sugarcane stalks of each variety having age of 10 to 11 months were taken for experiment. The properties of sugarcane whole stalk and setts (one budded and two budded) were determined. The results shown that the length and weight of sugarcane stalks were varying with variety. The variety Co86032 and CoM 0265 produces longer and heavier stalks than variety CoS767. The average diameter as well as internode length of the stalk reduces from bottom to top position on the stalk in all three varities. About 43 to 66 percent two budded setts were having length in the range of 200 to 300 mm. Weight of 90 per cent two budded setts of CoM0265 variety was in the range of 250-350 g and 66 per cent setts of Co86032 varieties were in the range of 150-250g, while 75 per cent sett of CoS767 variety were in the range of 75-150 g. Static coefficient of friction between two budded setts and FRP was the lowest whereas it was the highest with one budded sett in vertical position and rubber. The values of dynamic coefficient of friction were lower than static coefficient of friction.
