ABSTRACT
The investigation was carried out to determine the possible bioactive components from Abrus precatorius leaflets using GC-MS analysis. Leaflets of plant were extracted in different solvents, ranging in polarity, i.e. Petroleum ether, Ethyl acetate, Methanol and water. Ranging in polarity major compounds in non-polar fraction of petroleum ether showed presence of 1-Triacontanol (1.557 µg/ml), n-Hexadecanoic acid (1.526 µg/ml), Octadecanoic acid (1.277 µg/ml), Stigmasterol (1.236 µg/ml), Tetracontane (1.074 µg/ml) whereas, ethyl acetate extract showed presence of 3,7,11,15-Tetramethyl-2-hexadecen-1-ol (4.059 µg/ml), l-(+)-Ascorbic acid 2,6-dihexadecanoate (1.544 µg/ml), Octadecanoic acid (1.074 µg/ml). The highest number of compounds were identified in methanol extract which were Quinoline, 3-methyl- (2.606 µg/ml), Indole (1.182 µg/ml), 2-Methyltetrahydro-.beta.-carboline (1.153 µg/ml), 1H-Indole-3-propanoic acid, .alpha.-hydroxy-, methyl ester (1.065 µg/ml). Lowest number of compounds (13) were found in aqueous extract were 3.beta.-Myristoylolean-12-en-16.beta.-ol (3.795 µg/ml), 17-Octadecenoic acid, methyl ester (3.213 µg/ml), Hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester (1.497 µg/ml) were identified as major constitutes.
