ABSTRACT
Pneumatic planting seed metering concept is based on the suction pressure developed in the seed metering system. The laboratory study on the suction pressure in the pneumatic disc for holding cotton seed (Gossypium hirsutum L.) under positive pressure over the seed metering orifices were carried out. The suction pressure of 1800 Nm-2 held the desired number two cotton seed per hill through metering orifices with no skip (0 %), double (93 %) and multiple (7 %). The pneumatic disc with positive pressure hole of size 12 mm gave maximum evenness (98 %), percentage frequency (97 %) for hill spacing with standard deviation (0.416) and coefficient of variation (1.56 %). The seed metering disc with a size of seed metering orifice of 2.5 mm gave maximum percentage frequency of 93 % for the desired number of cotton seed. The increase in suction pressure increases the number of seeds per hill.
