ABSTRACT
The study was conducted on efficiency of multi seed decorticator in groundnut, castor and jatropha at ZAHRS, Babbur farm, Hiriyur, Chitradurga district of Karnataka during 2014-15. Decortications/shelling of groundnut, castor and jatropha are tedious and time consuming process, therefore, an attempt was made to develop and evaluate multi seed decorticator model-6. The study revealed that, power operated multi seed decorticator decorticated/shelled higher quantity of groundnut (355 kg/day), castor (992 kg/day) and jatraopha pods (1115 kg/day), over manually operated decorticator model-1 107, 745 and 707 kg/day, respectively. The per cent pods damage in groundnut (5.35 %), castor (11.91 %) and jatropha (6.12 %) were less in power operated multi seed decorticator (model-6) as compared to manually operated decorticator model-1 (7.72, 12.47 and 7.24 %, respectively). Similarly, it was also observed that unshelled pods were minimum in power operated multi seed decorticator (model-6) as compared to model-1. By considering less fatigue to the operator and higher output, multi seed decorticator could be advantageously used for decortications of groundnut, castor and jatropha respectively for small and marginal farmers.
