ABSTRACT
Conventional hybridization and bud pollination (Emasculation and pollination simultaneous application of pollen grains on the stigmatic surface and covering with butter paper cover) were effected to produce hybrid seeds of tomato on the selected parental lines (IHR – 709 as female parent and LE 812 as male parent). The results of the study showed that there is no difference in the two pollination methods for the observed characters like percentage of fruit set, no. of seeds/ fruit and seed weight / fruit. Therefore “Bud pollination" can be effectively employed in the hybrid seed production of tomato as that of conventional hybridization method to minimize the labour engagement, reduce the production cost and also to obtain high quality and high seed yield.
