ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted during 2009 to 2011 at Patna to investigate the effect of drip irrigation and levels of fertigation on productivity and economics of mentha-okra-potato cropping system. The treatments included four levels of irrigation [Three drip method 60 %, 80 % and 100 % of PE along with surface irrigation (IW/CPE= 0.80) at 6 cm depth] and 3 levels of fertigation (75, 100 and 125 % of soluble N and K). It could be seen that the mentha equivalent yield was highest (84.46 t/ha) with drip irrigation at 100 % PE which was higher by 73% over the surface irrigation. Irrigation at 80 % PE and 60 % PE were at par with each other in case of herbage yield of mentha and pod yield of okra with exception of tuber yield of potato crop. There was saving of 25, 50 and 80 % water in drip 100 % PE, 80 % PE and 60 % PE respectively over surface irrigation. The herbage yield of mentha, pod yield of okra and tuber yield of potato were significantly higher with application of 100 % recommended dose of soluble N and K fertilizers as compared to 75 % recommended dose of soluble N and K fertilizers, but it was at par with treatment 125 % recommended dose of soluble N and K fertilizers. Maximum mentha equivalent yield of 73.66 t/ha was obtained when crops were fertilized with 125 % recommended dose of soluble N and K. However, maximum benefit:cost ratio (3.63) was recorded by 100 % recommended dose of soluble N and K fertilizers. The interaction between irrigation levels and levels of recommended N and K fertilizer were statistically insignificant. Soil chemical parameters at the end of the experimentation were slightly improved due to varying levels of recommended N and K fertilizers as compared to initial levels.
