ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Utukur to evaluate the effect of different nitrogen levels on the growth and yield performance of two rice varieties during kharif seasons of 2018 and 2019. The experiment comprised of two rice varieties namely BPT- 5204 and NDLR -7 and six nitrogen levels viz., 0 (control), 80,120,160,200 and 240 kg N ha-1. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with two factors and three replications. Taller plants were recorded with NDLR-7 compared to BPT- 5204. Two tested varieties are equally good in number of tillers per hill. Whereas filled grains per panicle, grain yield (5600 kg ha-1) and straw yield (8959 kg ha-1) were more with variety BPT-5204. Regarding nitrogen, increasing nitrogen dose up to 200 kg N ha-1 increases plant height and number of tillers per hill. Significantly higher grain yield was recorded with application of 200 kg N ha-1 (6463 kg ha-1). But the straw yield was more with application of 240 kg N ha-1. Hence application of 200 kg N ha-1 was found optimum for medium duration varieties of rice in Kadapa region of Andhra Pradesh for kharif season.
