ABSTRACT
Response of twelve different aubergine genotypes against brinjal shoot and fruit borer (Leucinodes orbonalis Guen.) was evaluated and reflected, different levels of infestation in all genotypes by shoot and fruit borers. Hybrid genotypes namely Shalimar Brinjal Hybrid-1 and 2 showed shoot infestation maximum of 9.10, 8.69 per cent and fruit infestation 23.07 and 22.0 per cent, respectively. Varieties, Brinjal-85 and Local Long were found least attacked by the borers recording the shoot and fruit damage of 2.34, 4.60 and 3.30, 5.15 per cent, respectively. Various fruit , shoot and leaf morphological characters were correlated with the f pest infestation. A strong and negative correlation coefficient was observed between per cent infestation and shoot and leaf hairs, length of peripheral seedring, ratio of length of peripheral seedring and shape index while as, a positive and significant correlation was observed between borer infestation and plant height, number of branches, length of fruit, pericarp thickness, volume index, number of fruits, length of seedless area and ratio of length of seedless area.
