ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted during the year 2004 and 2005 with four main plots (planting dates) viz., 15th March (D1), 15th May (D2), 15th July (D3) and 15th September (D4); two sub plots viz., 6 (H1) and 12 (H2) hours soaking of suckers and three sub-sub plot treatments viz., GA3 at 10 (P1), 15 (P2) and 20 (P3) mg l-1. The vigorous plant growth viz., plant height with panicle, number of leaves, leaf area, plant spread, number of suckers per plant, fresh and dry weight of plant was observed maximum in 15th March planting (D1). The golden rod plants when planted on 15th March induced early initiation of panicles while days required for opening of first flower were recorded minimum under 15th July planting (D3). The quality of panicle viz., length of panicle, number of primary branches per panicle, spread of primary branches, length of flowering region, diameter of main stalk of panicle, fresh and dry weight of panicle was significantly the maximum when suckers of golden rod planted on 15th March. The longevity and keeping quality of panicles were lasted maximum on 15th September panting (D4), while number of panicles per plant and per hectare were maximum under 15th July planting. The vigorous plant growth, early initiation of panicles and opening of flowers with better quality and maximum yield of panicles were noticed when the suckers of golden rod were soaked for 12 hours (H2) and in 20 mg l-1 GA3 (P3).
