ABSTRACT
Present study was initiated to study the effect of sowing dates on the quality of maize seed in the Southern Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. The research was carried out at the Seed Research & Technology Center, ANGRAU, Hyderabad during 2013-14. Dates of sowing had significant influence on germination, shoot length, root length, seedling length, seedling vigour indices I & II, seedling dry weight and test weight. The study revealed that good quality of maize seed was obtained with July 15th sowing as the seedlings have exhibited maximum germination (100%), shoot length (15.3 cm), root length (16.1 cm), seedling length (31.3 cm), seedling vigour index I (3130), seedling dry weight (0.25 g), seedling vigour index II (25.00) and 100 seed weight (30.17 g).
