ABSTRACT
Field experiments were conducted in laterite soils (Ultisols) of STCR filed, College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur by adopting the inductive-cum-targeted yield model, and fertilizer requirements were quantified for chilli based on soil test and yield target. The basic parameters viz. nutrient requirement (NR) and contribution of nutrients from soil (CS), fertilizer (CF) and farm yard manure (CFYM) were computed from the field experimental data. It was found that 11.85, 0.60 and 14.03 kg of N, P2O5 and K2O respectively were required for producing one tonne fruit yield of chilli. The percent contribution of P2O5 (11.19 kg ha-1) from soil was relatively higher while the per cent contribution of N was higher from fertilizer source (152 kg ha-1) and FYM (15.59 kg ha-1). Using the basic parameters, fertilizer prescription equations were developed based on integrated plant nutrition system (IPNS), and ready reckoner tables were formulated for desired yield target of chilli for a range of soil test values.
