ABSTRACT
Solar power from solar photovoltaic system was used for operation of refrigerator, lights, fan and blower of a solar dryer. Four solar panels of 100 W each total 400 W) (open circuit voltage 18 V) were used to operate the system. The direct current (DC) power of the solar panel was converted into single phase alternating current (AC) power with the help of a 1400 VA inverter. A battery was used to provide back up to the system in the absence of solar energy. With this system a refrigerator (80 l, 90 W), three tube lights (84 W), a fan (50 W) was operated for 24 h, 6 h and 18 h respectively. Besides, this system could also be used for operation of a blower (375 W) of the solar dryer for 6 h successfully. The system could be very useful to farmers/rural poor for operation of lighting, fan, refrigeration system and dryer in rural areas where electricity is not available or its supply is erratic.
