ABSTRACT
The objective of present investigation was to select the linseed varieties with high Omega-3 and SDG for hybridization. The genetic variability and diversity among 51 released linseed varieties was studied using multivariate analysis for nine quantitative traits in rabi 2010-2011 at College of Agriculture, Nagpur. The grouping of varieties into 8 clusters indicated the presence of wide range of genetic variability and diversity among 51 varieties of linseed. The maximum inter-cluster distance was observed between the cluster V and VI (17.056). The number of capsules per plant, plant height and days to 50 per cent flowering contributed maximum towards genetic divergence. The linseed varieties viz., PKV-NL-260, T-397, NL-97, Padmini Kartika, Jawahar-1, Sharda, Subhra, Surbhi, Binwa, Baner and C-429 as female and other released linseed varieties LC-185, Shekhar, Jawahar-23, Him alsi-1, Surbhi, Baner, Binwa and Jawahar-1 as males may be used for hybridization and to obtain desirable transgrates.
