ABSTRACT
Fifty germplasm of chilli were evaluated to assess the path coefficient analysis during rabi season for both years in a randomized block design with three replications. It is cleared from the present investigation that fruit body length showed highest positive direct effect towards the fruit yield per plant, followed by early fresh fruit yield per plant, peduncle length, leaf area, plant canopy, seed weight per fruit, days to 50% flowering and number of fruits per plant at genotypic level but at phenotypic level maximum direct positive effect was made by early fresh fruit yield per plant, followed by seed weight per fruit and dry fruit yield per plant in first year. Almost same results were recorded in second year on fruit yield per plant. In both years of study data revealed that fruit body length, early fresh fruit yield per plant and number of fruits per plant appeared as the most important traits due to their high contribution of direct and indirect effects to fruit yield per plant, for improving the genotypes of chillies.
