ABSTRACT
An investigation was carried out to study the sustenance of soil health and productivity of sugarcane through different levels and source of organics on heavy black soil low in organic carbon, medium in available P and K and neutral in reaction during 2005 - 2006 (plant) and 2006 - 2007 (ratoon). Cane and trash yields were affected significantly due to the different manurial treatments both in plant and ratoon. Crop receiving 100% of recommended doses (250:125:125 NPK kg/ha in plant and 300:62.5:125 NPK kg/ha in ratoon) through fertilizers gave significantly higher cane and trash yield with B:C ratio of 2.99. Cane yields in plant and ratoon were 106.15 and 94.34 t/ha, respectively under the treatment 100% RDF followed by treatment T5 (Bio-compost @ 10 t/ha at planting and poultry manure @ 5 t/ha at earthing up). All the micronutrients uptake (Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu) by plant + ratoon crops was relatively higher and sustained the available nutrient status of soil with treatment T5 which was followed by treatment T7.
