ABSTRACT
The productivity of sweet sorghum as a raw material for ethanol production ,is mainly determined by stalk yield and sugar content. Environmental factors and combining ability contribute significantly for important biofuel traits. Breeding approaches for first generation biofuel include evaluation of hybrids and varieties having high cane yield and brix°. Genetic diversity in sorghum is useful to create variations. Introduction of low lignin sorghum will be the strategy to produce lignocellulosic biomass for second generation of bioenergy.
