ABSTRACT
The present study was taken up with the objective to increase the percentage of germination and ascertain the position of seed capsules whether bottom or middle in a spike for better germination percentage and also to synchronize the period of germination. The air dried seed (control), acid treated (nitric acid 25%), water soaked seeds for five days, 25% cow-dung solution soaked seeds for five days, GA3 (10ppm) soaked seeds for five days, acid treated seeds soaked in GA3 (10ppm) for five days were sown as per treatment. The results revealed that the maximum germination percentage (60.2%) for seeds collected from bottom capsules followed by middle capsule (55.7%). Both the cases the treatment was same as acid treated (nitric acid 25% for 10 minutes) seeds dried and the soaked in GA3 (10 ppm) solution for five days. In control, the percentage of germination was found as 24.6 % when seeds collected from bottom capsule and 22.6% when seeds collected from middle capsule. Seeds remain viable for 65 days.
