ABSTRACT
The brunt of price volatility of tomato, onion and potato for decades together has affected both producers and consumers. Union Government in its budget 2018-19 proposed to launch “Operation Greens” on the lines of “Operations Flood” with allocation of ` 500 crores to create a sustainable road map to ensure that tomato, onion and potato are available in every nook and corner of the country round the year without any price volatility. Operation Greens aims to promote farmer producers organizations, agri-logistics, processing facilities and professional management. In this context, the paper examines dynamics of demand for and supply of tomato, onion and potato in Karnataka which is one of the leading producer of these commodities. Factors affecting price volatility are examined and measures are suggested to address on priority basis under “operation green” which will aid in reducing price volatility.
