ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted at the University farm of Regional Research Station, Costal Saline Zones of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Kakdwip under 24-parganas (south) district of West Bengal to investigate the effect of various geotextile on change of soil properties including yield of chilli. The experiment showed that yield of chilli responded by jute, sunhemp, coco coir and banana leaf were 53.6, 51.2, 48.1and 46.1% respectively. These also improved moisture use efficiency, in general, by 35.2 % over control. Decreasing bulk density with simultaneous increasing of porosity under each treatment also improved the moisture retention capacity in soil. Better aggregation and their stabilization occurred with applied treatments. Results under jute geotextiles were found most effective in all the above respects followed by sunhemp, coco coir and banana leaf geotextiles.
