ABSTRACT
Greengram is a major pulse crop grown in kharif as well as in rabi in Andhra Pradesh. In majority of the area the crop is grown under Irrigated dry conditions in rice fallows with neither improved varieties nor with recommended practices. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Visakhapatnam has organized front line demonstrations with improved varieties along with recommended practices. Two varieties selected were MGG-295 and LGG-460 which are released at state level. Trials were conducted in 29 locations at Ravikamatham, Chodavaram and Munagapaka mandals from 2005-06 to 2008-09 with LGG-460 and in 19 locations at Ravikamatham and Chodavaram mandals selected for MGG-295. Pre seasonal and post seasonal trainings conducted during crop growth period revealed that the varieties LGG-460 and MGG-295 have shown significant increase in yield i.e. 59% and 51% respectively over local variety. The farmers also opined that the new varieties have better resistance to pests and diseases.
