ABSTRACT
Variability was observed in 46 genotypes of sweet Sorghum. Analysis revealed that wide range of phenotypic variation was observed for most of the characters. High heritability was observed for all the characters under study. High heritability estimates associated with high genetic advance were observed for juice extraction per cent, cane yield and reducing sugars. High heritability coupled with low genetic advance were observed for days to 50 per cent flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of internodes, stem girth, brix percentage at 60 DAS, brix percentage at 50 per cent flowering, brix percentage at physiological maturity, indicating the role of non-additive gene action, hence heterosis breeding would be effective for improving these traits. So, it can be concluded that the wide variability is present in sweet sorghum, it can be utilized for further breeding programmes for developing new commercial varieties and hybrids.
