ABSTRACT
Varietal assessment is the pre requisite for the selection of superior genotypes through planned breeding programme. Since then six genotypes of pummelo were identified as superior genotypes. Wide variability in mean rootstock diameter (39.20 – 102.43 mm), mean rootstock scion union ratio ( 0.83-1.15), mean leaf lamina length : width ratio (1.45- 1.65), mean fruit weight (741.30 – 1260.0 g per fruit), mean fruit diameter (129.19 – 226.49 mm per fruit), mean fruit length (113.01 – 204.78 mm per fruit), mean albedo thickness (3.11 – 4.89 mm), mean density of oil glands/cm2 (26.0 – 37.50 / cm2), mean total soluble solids (7.57 – 8.44 0brix) and mean titrable acidity (0.77 – 1.02%) was observed among the six pummelo genotypes. In variability study, among six genotypes revealed that highest genetic advance percentage of mean was estimated for seed weight (53.99%), followed by fruit length (51.99%) and seed number (48.05%) suggesting that further selection will be effective for improvement in these traits. The heavy yielder (White Pummelo) and quality fruit producer (Pink Pummelo and NRCC Pummelo 2) for commercial cultivation in the subtropical zones of Punjab.
