ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2013-14 to study the varietal performance of wheat under different date of sowing in Central Plain Zone of U.P. in sandy loam soil at Students Instructional Farm of C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur (U.P.). The experiment consisted of sixteen treatment combinations comprised of four sowing date on November, 30, December, 10, December, 20 and December, 30 and four variety viz., PBW-343, K-307, Mahi and HUW-234. Results revealed that sowing on Nov.,30th produced significantly higher growth yield attributes due to fulfillment of optimum number of shoots/m2 and dry matter various plant processes. The vegetative stage adversely affected number of spiklets/ear, length of ear (cm), grain weight/ear (g), 1000-grain weight (g) and No. of grain/ear in late sowing (Dec., 30th) which ultimately resulted the lowest seed yield. Delay in sowing reduced the seed yield by 12.3q/ha over Nov., 30th sowing. The harvest index was recorded when sowing was done on sown Nov., 30th followed by sowing done on Dec., 10th, Dec., 20th, while lowest harvest index was recorded when sowing was done on Dec., 30th. It is higher grain yield (44.58q/ha) under sowing on 30 November. It was significantly superior over sowing on 10 December (41.08 q/ha), 20 December (35.42 q/ha) followed by sowing on 30 December (32.33 q/ha). The variety PBW-343 recorded significantly highest grain yields (43.0 q/ha) as compared to K-307 (40.0 q/ha), Mahi (36.42 q/ha) & HUW-234 (34.0 q/ha) yield of wheat under present investigation.
