ABSTRACT
The increasing food demand had raised the importance of automation and robotics technology in the agriculture field. Current pandemic outbreak also necessitates the significance of automation for enhancing the agricultural sustainability and economics. Agricultural robots can make a revolutionary change as they are able to perform most agricultural tasks effectively, both in field and protected environment, which will result in higher crop productivity, reduced labour shortage and saving of time. One of the principle components in an agricultural robot is its wireless communication. Wireless communication facilitates the control of the robot from a safe and comfortable working environment. Various wireless communication techniques employed in agricultural robots are reviewed in this paper. The communication range may vary from few centimeters to several kilometers depending upon the technology used. Bluetooth technology, Zigbee technology, Web-based communication, WiFi technology, cellular technology etc. are some of the commonly used wireless communication standards. Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming an optimistic technology towards agricultural modernization. So as comparing with other technologies, internet is having a wide application since the communication range is unlimited.
