ABSTRACT
The experimental material consisted of ten parental genotypes and their 55 F1S developed through diallel mating excluding reciprocals was evaluated in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications during 2008-09. Total 16 characters were studied as two phenological characters, three growth attributes, six yield component characters, four quality characters and seed yield per plant. The genotypic differences were observed for all the characters; the parents and hybrids also differed among themselves. The contrast comparisons of parents and hybrids were also significant for all the characters except plant height, effective length of main branch, number of seeds per siliquae and test weight, thereby suggesting possibility for hererotic crosses. The magnitude of relative heterosis and heterobeltiosis was negative for days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, number of primary branches per plant, length of main branch, test weight and oil content (%). For characters, plant height and number of seeds per silique magnitude of relative heterosis and -heterobeltiosis was in both the directions. Whereas, for number of secondary branches per plant, number of siliquea per plant, average siliquea length, seed yield per plant, harvest index, protein content, erucic acid content and glucosinolate content magnitude of both the heterotic effects was positive. The glance of results revealed that for seed yield F1s, Bio-902 x NUDHYJ-3, Bio-902 x JM-3, GM-2 x NUDHYJ-3, GM-2 x Bio-902 and Bio-902 x TM-2 registered above 60 per cent heterobeltiosis and above 25 g seed yield per plant.
