MEENAKSHI DHOOT, R.B. DUBEY and RUPAL DHOOT. 2016. Heterosis in yellow seeded maize (Zea mays L.) for yield and qualitative characters. Green Farming Vol. 7 (6) : 1306-1310 ; November-December, 2016

ABSTRACT
Heterosis was estimated in 45 hybrids obtained by 10 parents and evaluated along with 3 checks in RBD with 3 replications using diallel mating design in maize. The highest positive significant heterosis was exhibited by hybrid P3 x P8 (96.20) for relative heterosis, hybrid P1 x P10 (91.46) for heterobeltiosis and P1 x P6 (22.79) for economic heterosis for oil content. Hybrid P1 x P6 also revealed highest per se performance for oil content (5.57%) and grain yield per plant (96.67 g/p). Hybrid P4 x P7 (7.94) exhibited maximum positive significant relative heterosis, hybrid P1 x P5 (6.33) exhibited maximum positive significant heterobeltiosis and hybrid P2 x P5 (3.24) exhibited maximum positive significant economic heterosis for starch content. For protein content, hybrid P3 x P9 exhibited maximum positive significant relative heterosis (29.81) and heterobeltiosis (25.26) and hybrid P5 x P7 (10.47) obtained maximum positive significant economic heterosis. For grain yield per plant, the highest positive significant heterosis was exhibited by hybrid P1 x P2 for relative heterosis (82.39) and heterobeltiosis (66.03) & P6 x P7 (41.67) for economic heterosis.
